Principal Katie Stanley has announced the following leadership transitions in the athletic department:
Sean Murphy joined JPII as director of athletics, head football coach, and health teacher in the summer of 2018. Since then, he has helped more than 30 Saints student-athletes with the recruitment process to continue their athletic careers on the collegiate level. While continuing as head football coach and teaching health, Murphy will now focus more of his efforts on facilitating the college recruitment process for our student-athletes as the Director of Student-Athlete Advancement. In this role, Murphy will also collaborate closely with coaches, admissions staff, and academic leaders to attract talented student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom, while embracing the principles of Catholic education. “I am excited about my new role and the opportunity to help our student-athletes with the college recruitment process,” Murphy said. “This is something I enjoy doing because it is very rewarding to see a student-athlete achieve their dream of playing on the next level.”
With Murphy’s focus on this new role, Assistant Athletic Director Matt Mason has been elevated to director of athletics. He will continue as head baseball coach and civics and economics teacher. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be the next athletic director at John Paul II Catholic High School,” Mason said. “I appreciate the training Coach Murphy provided me as his assistant AD as he built a strong athletic foundation over the last seven years. Thank you to Mrs. Stanley for entrusting me to continue developing and growing our athletics program. I’m excited to get started working with our students, parents, coaches, administration, faculty, partners, and other high schools. Go Saints!” Coach Murphy added, “I am excited for Matt Mason and I know he will do an amazing job as our new AD! Matt is professional, organized, and committed to our students and our school.”
