The John Paul II football team made quick work of visiting Liberty Christian on Thursday, scoring 34 points in the first quarter en route to a 63-6 victory.

JPII improved to 4-2 heading into a pivotal matchup on Friday, Oct. 6, at home against Parrott. Liberty Christian, in its first season, dropped to 0-4.

The Saints got scores in the first quarter from J.T. Williams (51-yard pass from Connor Kendrick), Keiveon Moore (18 run), Wyatt Stamatis (62 run), Thomas Keeter (1 run) and Gentry McMinn (57 run). At one point, they had run four plays and scored three touchdowns, with the fourth play being an incomplete pass.

In the second quarter, sophomore Micah Gray-Hudnell scored his first varsity touchdown on a 7-yard pass from Kendrick. Gray-Hudnell made a circus catch on the play as he ran across the middle, batting it into the air and then coming up with it as he fell to the ground.

Also in the second, Keeter scored from 2 yards out. In the second half, with a running clock, Matt Mullis scored on a 15-yard run, and Ryan Wright scored from 25 yards. It was the first varsity touchdown for both Mullis and Wright.

Will Wright had four point-after kick conversions, and had six touchbacks on kickoffs. Freshman Nico Marlow had three conversion kicks and two touchbacks. A.J. Koesters scored on a 2-point conversion run.

JPII also was whistled for just one penalty, a holding call in the last three minutes.
