Four football players sign to play in college

Four John Paul II Catholic High School seniors signed their National Letter of Intent to play college football at a signing day ceremony held at the JPII Athletic Center on National Signing Day, February 1, 2023.

Offensive lineman Joey Koesters will attend Washington & Lee University, a DIII school in Virginia. Koesters is receiving $55,000 per year in grants & scholarships to attend W&L. At JPII, he was a four-year starter, team captain, named All Conference, All State, and Academic All State. This year he led the team in pancake blocks with 39.

Defensive back and running back Xae Lang will attend Hampden-Sydney College, a DIII school in Virginia. Lang is receiving $65,000 per year in grants to attend HSC.  This is a full scholarship and will cover all of his costs to attend HSC. His senior year he made 64 tackles with 2 interceptions and on offense he rushed for 584 yards and scored 7 touchdowns on his way to being named All Conference.

Running back and defensive lineman Rion Roseborough will attend Towson University in Maryland, a DI school at the FCS level. Roseborough is receiving a full athletic scholarship that will cover tuition, housing, dining, and books. He earned numerous recognitions as a three-year starter including team captain, All Conference, All State, and two-time Big 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Year. His senior year he rushed for 2,501 yards and scored 43 touchdowns

Defensive end Max Winkler will attend Grove City College a DIII school in Pennsylvania. Winkler has received $4,000 per year in grants and is waiting on merit scholarships. His senior year he had 102 tackles and 13.5 sacks and was named to the All Conference team.

Koesters and Lang were both members of the first football team at JPII as freshmen. Roseborough transferred in as a sophomore and Winkler transferred in as a junior.
