Team play drives first win for lacrosse

The Saints lacrosse team found their first victory against the West Carteret High School Patriots on Thursday night. The match was back and forth with three lead changes but the Saints rallied together and won the game.

What Happened

The Saints fell behind early in the first quarter, but after a goal from Britt Gauquie (assisted by Brody Fox), the game was tied at 1. The Patriots added another goal and went into the second quarter with a 2-1 lead.

Both teams were able to score in the second period, with the Saints’ goal coming from Britt Gauquie (assisted by Thomas Keeter). The score at the half was 3-2 Patriots.

In the 3rd quarter, the Saints were able to generate some offense and kept the Patriots off the board. Senior Brody Mitchell (assisted by Britt Gauquie) bounced one past the Patriots goalie to score his first goal of the season.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle. Will Fawcett gave the Saints their first lead of the game on an unassisted goal. The Patriots rallied back scoring a goal of their own to tie the game again at 4. With two minutes remaining in the game, Jacob Daughety (assisted by Will Fawcett) was able to find the back of the net to give the Saints the lead and eventually the win.

The Saints’ defense was able to kill multiple man-down opportunities throughout the game, most notably a two-minute, two-man-down drive to head into the fourth quarter tied 3-3.

In goal for the Saints was Bryce Keel, who ended the game with 48 minutes played and 18 saves.
