Athletic Director Sean Murphy has announced that tennis coaching veteran Ken Whitehurst is now the head coach for both the boys and girls teams. Whitehurst was the head boys coach at D.H. Conley for nine years and during that time his teams won four conference championships and six of the nine qualified for the 3A/4A dual team playoffs. His 2016, 2017, and 2018 teams went undefeated during regular season play. Individually, his players earned three conference singles titles, one conference doubles title, two 4A Eastern Regionals singles championships, and one 4A state singles semi-finalist.
In 2017, Whitehurst was named the Eastern Carolina 4A/3A Conference Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year.
